PUPART was originally created to help raise funds for local Jersey City non-profit community art programs at an annual charity summer festival. After a wildly successful weekend of raising money for a great cause and meeting tons of adorable pups, we decided to keep PUPART alive- but this time around, we are giving back to the pups themselves. After months of hard work and collaboration, we are now operating as our own non-profit, raising funds for animals in need. Keep scrolling to learn more about what we do and why we do it!
The Pup Behind Our Mission
Hi! My name is Kuna. I am Head of Marketing for PUPART. My parents rescued me from an overcrowded kill shelter when I was a pup and we are celebrating 3 years filled with tons of love and adventures together! This past fall, I had an accident while my parents were away on vacation that caused me to lose my leg. This was a very stressful time for our family. Not only did it kill them to see me hurt, but the vet bills were adding up to almost 15,000 dollars. If they weren't able to come up with that money, I would not be here today. My mom started PUPART to make sure that no one has to be faced with that decision and so that ALL pets can get the care that they need. PUPART will be partnering with charities that aim to help pet owners with non-basic vet bills. We will also be supporting shelters, adoption programs, and a variety of other animal welfare initiatives.
About the Artist
Dave Schurtman is the artist behind the PUPART pieces. He has a love for Pop Art and a deep affection for dogs and all animals. In his off time, Dave is a musician, photographer, husband and father to three adorable rescue bunnies!
Dave felt it natural to blend Pop Art with pets as art pieces. “I want the works to look like if Andy Warhol had dogs hanging around his Silver Factory instead of the nightlife of the late 60’s. Although dogs hanging out with The Velvet Underground sound like it could have been a blast”.
He wants people to celebrate their pets because they bring so much needed love into the world and Pop Art is one of the most fun art styles out there!
